The ‘Love Touches Lives’ charity project organized by MRCA is in supporting and
helping single mothers across Malaysia. In the wake of this catastrophic period and current recovery situation, it has impacted the lives of the most vulnerable communities nationwide, which are the single mothers.
LOVE TOUCHES LIVES
The Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) has initiated the ‘Love Touches Lives‘ charity project to aid single mothers in Malaysia who have taken a hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic. MRCA started this initiative to soften the blow that this pandemic has left on single mothers as many have lost their jobs during the Movement Control Order (MCO) and must continue to support and fend for their children on their own. A survey conducted by Selangor’s Women Empowerment Institute saw a majority of single mothers earning less than RM3,000 a month; at least 40% of them were forced to either take unpaid leave or close their businesses during the MCO. Raising children is not easy, even more so to do it alone while struggling to put food on the table and maintain the roof over their heads. The ‘Love Touches Lives’ charity project will be of help to single mothers regardless of race, ethnicity, and religion.
MRCA has done numerous philanthropy projects in the past, this time around it is targeting single mothers in need of support during these trying times. In the past five years, through the MRCA Branding Education Charity Foundation, MRCA has contributed over RM1 million to many charitable causes.
Through this project, MRCA aims to raise RM100,000, and interested parties can donate a minimum of RM100, a higher donation will enable MRCA to do more to help single mothers. Single mothers from six meticulously and carefully identified single mothers’ organizations as listed below have been selected to be the beneficiaries of this project.
- Great Heart Charity Association
- Kassim Chin Humanity Foundation
- Persatuan Ibu Tunggal Spring Malaysia
- Association of Social Services and Community Development of Gombak District, Selangor (PSPK)
